There is an overwhelming need in the world to help children who are suffering. Children in poverty-stricken areas of the world are dying from hunger, lack of clean water, and sickness. Children suffer, not only when their physical needs are not met, but also when they are oppressed and taken advantage of. Many children are sold into bonded labor and or forced to work to take care of themselves or their families. Over 10 million children around the world work full-time or longer (12-14 hours per day). Children are also deceived, coerced, or sold into prostitution. In Asia alone, over 1 million children are being trafficked into the sex trade. Approximately 200,000 Nepalese girls under the age of 16 have been trafficked into India as prostitutes. Sometimes children aren’t coerced or deceived but simply follow in the footsteps of their parents. The Bible talks about generational sin and children “doing as their fathers did” (2 Kings 17:41). The lack of education is often a major contributor to children getting involved in these travesties. Today the number of children who have never attended school is at 125 million! Children who had started school at primary age, but dropped out before they could read and write are numbered at an additional 150 million! These children are easy targets for exploitative employers.
